Cochrane Minor Ball hosting first-ever online raffle

“Making sure that everyone has the opportunity is our biggest goal. We want everyone to be able to play the sport.”

COCHRANE— Cochrane Minor Baseball is hosting its first ever online 50/50 raffle with a minimum grand prize of $1,000 or 50 per cent of ticket sales, whichever is greater.

“Every year we look at fundraising for our association, and typically in the past we’ve used West-Jet as a big supporter and we offer flight rewards for people who have registered their kids in our program,” said Michelle O’How, administration and operations coordinator of Cochrane Minor Ball.

O’How said she had seen other user groups in Cochrane engage in similar fundraising efforts and decided to give the 50/50 model a shot.

The proceeds will go towards equipment, diamond upgrades, association operations and keeping the registration fees low for families who register their kids to play baseball.

O’How said keeping fees low and the program accessible is central to the values of Cochrane Minor Ball.

“We try to ensure that our fees are affordable for all families so if you want to get out and enjoy the season you can,” she said. “We haven’t had to raise fees for our membership for quite a few years now because of the fundraising we do, and we would like to keep it that way.”

“Making sure that everyone has the opportunity is our biggest goal. We want everyone to be able to play the sport,” she added.

Ticket prices are range from one ticket for $10, to 30 for $100. Ticket sales end on March 23, with the draw going ahead on March 31. The raffle jackpot is already upwards of $2,000.
