Cochrane Music Society's three ensembles will present their Winter Celebration Concert on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. at Bow Valley Baptist Church, in a performance that will include both modern and classic tunes.
According to a press release from the Cochrane Music Society, Band on the Bow will play Katahj Copley's “Bridges,” Matt Campbell’s “A Thousand Inner Voices,” and Chrys Byman’s “Autumn Down A Maple Lane” as the concert's modern set, before The Vaughan Williams "English Folk Song Suite" and Leroy Anderson “Sleigh Ride” round out the classic band repertoire.
In addition, Jane Kaczmer from the society said Choral Waves will be singing the popular "Christmas Lullaby'' by John Rutter, an arrangement of the classic "Ukrainian Bell Carol" featuring "four hands" accompaniment, a bold new treatment of 'What Child Is This" performed a cappella with body percussion, and a blending of "Angels We Have Heard on High" with the contemporary classic "Christmastime" by Michael W. Smith".
Kaczmer added they will complete their performance with "Goin' to Bethlehem" – an original composition performed as a traditional spiritual – and "There Is Faint Music," which she said is "a gorgeous and poetic setting of Mary singing a lullaby to her newborn baby."
Riverside Jazz is welcoming vocalist LeeAnn Davis DeCoteau to sing Johnny Burke’s "Imagination" and "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You," along with arrangements of The Beatle's “Blackbird”, and Earth, Wind and Fire's “Fantasy.” Ellen Rowe's “Spirit Song” and Erik Morales' “Alianza” complete their set.
"It’s going to be a great show," Kaczmer stated in the release.
Tickets are available online at cochranemusic.ca and at the door. As per the press release, audiences are encouraged to bring food bank donations, and there will also be an opportunity to cash in on the Cochrane Music Society's 50/50 raffle.
