With the 2022 tax-filing deadline drawing near, a new volunteer income tax program is returning to Cochrane with the aim to help residents submit their taxes.
The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) will be available to eligible residents by the Cochrane and Community Support Services (FCSS), for those who need assistance filing their 2022 income taxes.
The initiative is run by the FCSS and supported by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is geared toward providing low-income residents with a simple tax situation file their annual income taxes.
The program works by pairing participants with trained community volunteers, and helps those residents access necessary and applicable government benefits.
Kim Krawec, Manager of FCSS for the Town of Cochrane, said the program would not be possible without the support and help of community volunteers.
“Last year, two volunteers contributed over 225 hours and assisted with filing 613 tax returns,” Krawec said. “The tax assistance provided through this program has positively impacted hundreds of seniors, children and low-income individuals by ensuring they receive all obtainable benefits.”
Those interested can book appointments, and also receive program support until he 2022 tax filing deadline of April 30.
