Cochrane Public Library adds two more ghost hunting kits to collection

The Cochrane Public Library has recently added two more ghost hunting kits to their collection for local budding ghost hunters in the community.

The Cochrane Public Library CPL is offering locals the chance to experience paranormal encounters to the community with their ghost hunting kits.

Program and engagement manager Carmen Erison explained that the kits were originally introduced into their collection in 2020.

“Who would have thought that a ghost hunting kit would become so popular, but due to the extreme popularity of this kit, we’ve had to increase those kits,” she said. “And now, we’re adding two more kits to the collection.”

Erison added this this is all in part due to a generous donation by Interpipeline, which also allowed the CPL to refurbish among many other things.

In the ghost hunting kit itself, Erison explained that there are three pieces of equipment that are sure to capture pieces of the paranormal.

“The first is you’re going to find a camera in there, and that’s going to help you capture those ghosts on camera,” Erison said. “The second thing that’s going to be in the kit is a recorder, and those are going to find all the ghostly, spooky, and haunted voices when you’re out searching.

“But the coolest item we have inside that kit is an EMF reader. The electromagnetic frequency reader is supposed to spike and turn red when ghosts are in the near vicinity.”

In addition to the equipment, Erison added that ghost journals will be added for hunters to log their experiences around town.

“I think there are a few lovely spooks and ghosts around Cochrane that people can hunt,” she said.

For anyone who would borrows these kits, Erison would like to remind users to hunt for ghosts in a safe and respectful manner.

“Just make sure that you’re not trespassing on people’s properties, that you’re respectful of the place where you’re ghost hunting, but yeah just have a lot of fun with it,” she said.

For anyone interested in borrowing out a kit, Erison said all they need is a library card, which residents can now pick up for free. Due to the high demand, those who are interested may be put on a waitlist which will automatically notify them when the kit can be picked up.

Halloween Spooktacular

As Halloween draws closer, Erison is also inviting trick or treaters to the Library for their Halloween Spooktacular event on Oct. 31.

The event will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., where kids can participate in a variety of activities, before they head out to trick-or-treat in the evening.

“We’re partnering with Stepping Stones Mental Health, as well as the Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee,” she said. “So, both those organizations are going to be here, and there’s going to be a total of four stations that kids can make their way around with different activities from crafts, little games, and such.”

Kids will be able to collect stamps from each station in their scare book, and upon completion, they will be able to put their name into a fun draw to win prizes.

“It’s completely free of charge and everyone’s welcome,” Erison said. “Activities are geared towards ages five to 10, but little ones are always welcome to join with their parents. And of course there’s going to lots of candy as well, so just a real great time.”
