ROCKY VIEW COUNTY— The Cochrane RCMP detachment is currently searching for a tractor-trailer that was involved in a serious crash, which sent four individuals to the hospital.
Just before 10 a.m. on Friday (July 17), a vehicle containing four occupants headed eastbound towards Calgary sideswiped a tractor-trailer, lost control and sped into the ditch, causing a rollover.
Two of the occupants were immediately taken to the hospital with injuries, while two of the occupants remained with RCMP members at the scene of the collision.
EMS was called back to the scene when one of the individuals’ condition began to worsen.
“There were four people injured in that collision,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said. “A couple of the occupants were taken by EMS. Two of the other occupants were left with us. One had some medical distress and EMS was called back and picked them up.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but drugs and alcohol did appear to be a factor in the collision, noted Savinkoff.
The tractor-trailer involved did not stop at the scene, and RCMP believe they may not have been aware of the collision and continued on.
Cochrane RCMP is asking all drivers in the area at the time of the collision to check their vehicles for damage consistent with being sideswiped.
Any other drivers that may have witnessed the crash are being asked to call the Cochrane RCMP detachment at 403-851-8000. If you wish to remain anonymous, tips can be phoned into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
