Cochrane RCMP make arrests in catalytic converter thefts

SPRINGBANK— Cochrane RCMP has charged five suspects in relation to the alleged theft of four catalytic converters stolen from an RV storage yard in Springbank.

On Saturday (Dec. 12) Cochrane RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter at the RV storage yard in Springbank, just West of Calgary. Upon their arrival officers apprehended five suspects leaving the area.

 A search of their vehicle revealed catalytic converters stolen off of recreational vehicles from the park, states the release. 

"Catalytic converter theft is a rising crime trend across the country," said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP in a press release. "Our officers are working hard to employ specific crime reduction tactics to target both the offenders as well as the recycle yards accepting these items."

Police have charged Jan-Anne August (29) of Calgary, Cory Davies (44) of Calgary, Jared Hiebert (47) of St. Albert, Mikhail Loskutov (28) of Calgary, and Jari Manner (38) of Cochrane with offences including Theft over $5000, Mischief over $5000, Possession of Break-in Tools, and Contravene order of Medical Officer of Health (COVID).

Manner and Loskutov were remanded for Court on Dec. 15, 2020. Davies, Hiebert, and August were released on conditions with first appearances set for Jan. 19, 2021.
