COCHRANE— The warmer weather over the weekend saw more people on the road, and the increased traffic volumes saw the RCMP responding to an increase in vehicle collisions.
On Saturday (April 17) highways west of Cochrane experienced higher than normal traffic volumes. Cochrane RCMP and EMS partners responded to 25 traffic-related calls, including three collisions with injuries, between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
The RCMP were on scene for two separate single motorcycle collisions on Highway 1A that saw the drivers transported by EMS. A third incident involved a dirt bike in an off-highway incident near Waiparous. The dirt bike driver was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance in serious non-life-threatening condition.
Cochrane RCMP are asking motorists to be mindful of increased traffic and are encouraging motorcycle riders to continue using all appropriate safety equipment.
