COCHRANE— The number of active cases of COVID-19 has risen to 44 in Cochrane as of the end of the day Sunday (March 14).
To date, there have been 373 cases of COVID-19 identified in town— Two people have died from the virus, and 327 have recovered.
Four schools in the region are reporting multiple cases of COVID-19, including Fireside School which is on active alert for two to four cases of COVID-19. Bow Valley High School has reported an outbreak of 10 or more cases, Cochrane High School is on alert for a reported two to four cases of COVID-19 and Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School is on alert for two to four cases of the virus.
During the live update on Monday (March 15), the province noted it had identified 364 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths, over the past 24 hours. Over that same span of time the province completed roughly 6,600 tests.
Alberta currently sits at a 5.5 per cent positivity rate.
The new cases identified by the province include 65 cases of new variants, which prompted Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw to urge Albertans to “redouble” their efforts in fighting the spread of the virus.
There are currently active alerts or outbreaks at 250 schools, or about 10 per cent of schools, in the province, with a total of 1,106 cases identified since January 11.
There are currently 255 people being treated in hospital, including 42 in intensive care.
The province moved into Phase 2A of the vaccine roll out on Monday (March 15) to include those born in 1956 or earlier. First Nations, Métis and Inuit people born in 1971 or earlier are also eligible to be vaccinated.
Roughly 437,000 Albertans are now eligible to be vaccinated.
To date, the province has administered roughly 369,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
There are currently 4,811 cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.
