Roll Scooters' two-year pilot project in Cochrane officially wraps up later this month.
According to a press release from the Town of Cochrane, the personal mobility vehicles will be rounded up as of Oct. 29.
The company was awarded a permit to operate their shared e-Scooters in Cochrane as part of a two-year pilot program starting in 2021. In June of this year, e-bikes were added to the Cochrane-wide fleet of scooters.
The service also extended this year into the communities of Sunset Ridge, Bow Ridge, Jumping Pound Ridge, Bow Meadows, Cochrane Heights, and others in-between.
In total, Roll reported 6,612 total trips in Cochrane last year, accounting for 1,963 unique trips, a 3.2-kilometre average riding distance, and 18.44 minutes of average riding time per trip.
"The pilot project supports the Town’s environmental and transportation goals by limiting carbon emissions, reducing traffic congestion, and minimizing transportation gaps," the Town's press release stated.
The pilot has been at no cost to the Town, and the news release stated a portion of the revenue from each trip is donated to the municipality for micro-mobility related projects, such as creating and maintaining protected bike lanes.
