Town council approved the grant funding recommendations as delivered by the Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) board and United Way Partnership Committee.

A total of $127,600 was doled out through 2018 grant funding. The board has an agreement with the United Way to allocate funding, with $50,000 funded through FCSS, $70,000 through the United Way – with an additional $7,600 to allocate toward a youth-related project.

“One of the things we are noticing is the asks are increasing quite substantially each year,” said FCSS manager Kim Krawec, adding that FCSS is grateful for the status quo funding it received this year just to maintain programs but that keeping up with program demand in the face of growth is a challenge.

The last time FCSS received a funding increase was 2015.

Funding highlights include a youth counselling program – as an identified need through the 2017 CARES survey – and a seniors social engagement program.
