Attention local cowgirls: the deadline to enter the 2013 Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty is fast approaching.

After noon July 17, applications for the pageant will no longer be accepted. So, there’s still a little bit of time left for potential royals to toss their hat in the ring.

For young women who are on the fence about whether to enter the competition, the current Cochrane rodeo queen said the contest has more to offer than just friendly rivalry between the competitors.

“(The pageant) allows girls to bond with each other and build relationships with someone you may never have crossed paths with,” said Lexie Courtney, Cochrane Lions Rodeo Queen for the 2012-2013 season. “You learn about personal presentation, public speaking and riding.”

Selected contestants will partake in a month-long competition during which they will be assessed by the committee in four categories: horsemanship, public speaking, personality and appearance. In addition, contestants will be fielding questions throughout the contest.

To qualify for the pageant, women must:

Be at least 18 years old as of April 2014 the year the application is submitted, and not over the age of 25 years as of concluding her reign (Nov. 30, 2014).

Never have been married or living common-law, pregnant, had a child, or pleaded guilty to or found guilty of a criminal offence.

Be a Canadian citizen.

Have a valid driver’s license, which has never been suspended.

To request an application, email [email protected] or contact the committee through their website at cochranelionsroyalty.com.
