The 23rd annual Friends of Cystic Fibrosis Golf Classic is coming up Aug. 27, with registration coming to an end tomorrow (Aug. 17) for golfers looking to swing in support of the genetic disorder that remains without a cure. For the non-golfers who wish to support the crusade for a cure, event chair Kayley MacLennan is encouraging Cochranites to participate in a wine raffle by donating a bottle of wine and buying tickets for the winner-takes-all raffle. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. All wine must be in by Aug. 24. MacLennan is a lifelong Cochranite whose family knows all too well life with CF. Her little brother, 27-year-old Karson Collins, was diagnosed with the disease at three months of age. In previous years, the tourney was held in Carstairs, but MacLennan switched venues to the Links of GlenEagles last year. “It’s been a struggle for him. He’s been in and out of the hospital a lot since he was a child,” said MacLennan, the oldest of five siblings and a married mother of two. Last year, MacLennan thought up the idea of a wine draw. For those looking to put their way through the day, the $175 registration to take a swing at CF includes 18-holes of golf with a cart in ‘Texas Scramble’ format, door prizes, a barbecue lunch and gourmet dinner and a chance to bid on live and silent auction items.
