This weekend there was a lot of pups and their people in the large dog park along Highway 22.
The Cochrane park was closed down due to flooding, pollution and debris that ran down the hill from the Feb. 6 fire at the Ramada Hotel.
The Town of Cochrane announced on its social media sites that the park had re-opened March 30.
The popular park was once again busy this past weekend, with dogs running around the area, which has been cleaned up by the Town.
Deepti Nayyar was at the park on Sunday with her dog Charlie and said she was relieved the park was open again.
“Before the fire, we were a regular here, but because of the fire and the flooding it was closed for two months,” she said. “We are happy the park re-opened because the other option you have is the Riverfront Park, which is really busy, and your dog tries to get in the water and with ice on the bank it was dangerous to let your dog out there.”
The Highway 22 park is in good shape, she said.
“We are happy the dog park is open and it is all fresh and clean,” Nayyar said.
The hotel is surrounded by fencing. Canalta Hotels, which owns the Cochrane Ramada, did not return calls on the status of the cleanup.
In the Town’s post they indicated Park’s staff had picked up debris along the fence and swept the pathways.
However, some people have questioned the Town on social media over testing the soil for chemicals.
The Town has not returned calls from the Cochrane Eagle about the soil safety.
