Whether you’re an avid egg hunter, have a penchant for crafts or are gearing up to carry the cross through downtown, Cochrane and the surrounding area has all sorts of family-friendly activities on the go this Easter weekend.

Join Cochrane’s faith community April 18 for the annual Walk of the Cross, which is set to get underway at 10 a.m. Attendees will carry the cross through the town’s downtown, pausing along the journey to sing hymns and read passages.

Parishioners from the local Christian churches will congregate in the open space south of the old Shell Station on Highway 1A. This is the 27th year of the celebration, which is organized through the Cochrane Ministerial Association.

Families should bundle up the kids, grab a basket and bust out the bunny ears for one of the Easter egg hunts to be held over the long weekend.

The East End Easter Egg Hunt gets underway Friday (April 18) at 10 a.m. Grown ups can sip on coffee, munch on muffins and watch their little ones search for chocolate eggs hidden in Dewey Blaney Park.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event. Admittance is free, although donations would be welcomed. For information, contact Alanna at [email protected].

The Riverview Community Association will be hosting their annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday afternoon (April 19), beginning at 1:30 p.m. Kids can test their trinket-searching skills on the grounds of the community’s playground — known as the ‘yellow park.’

The event is free for members of the association and their families, and $2 for non-members.

The Cochrane River Heights Community Association will also be hosting a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday (April 19), beginning at 10 a.m.

Families are invited to head to the River Heights Playground for the first annual hunt; registration will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The event will include face painting, refreshments, and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.

Children can register for the chocolate search for $2, or families can sign up for $5.

Residents of the townsite of Redwood Meadows are encouraged to bring their own basket for their Easter egg hunt, which is set to run at Redwood House at 10 a.m. The event is open to children up to the age of 12.

The Bragg Creek Community Association will be hosting an Easter Pancake Breakfast on April 19.

Running from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the hamlet’s community centre, the celebration will offer attendees more than a tasty snack.

A children’s play area will be open, and children can try their hands at cookie decorating, crafts, egg hunting and more.

Admission to the breakfast is $5 per person, but free to kids under five years old.
