As the Elizabeth Barrett School Fundraising Association gears up for their seventh annual ‘Spring Fling Dance’ and fundraising event that takes place at the school April 24, organizers are still looking to the local business community for donations big and small.

“Every year the business community is really kind to us and we’re very grateful to them,” said association co-president, Mel Dickinson, who shares the presidency with Brenda Samborski.

The annual event is the main fundraiser for school enhancement projects — including the resurfacing of the school playground last year.

All of the funds raised this year will go toward the renovation of the library area — from a traditional learning centre to a more interactive space or ‘learning commons’, complete with new furniture and technologies such as cameras, microphones, iPads, iPods and laptops.

“We’re looking for all kinds of donations, including mini prizes for the kids — gift cards, fast food vouchers,” said Samborski, who hopes to have all donations submitted by April 19.

Last year the event raised $14,000 and the year before brought in $11,000; these combined funds went toward the playground resurfacing and moving the equipment, which came in at $50,000.

The dance is a ticketed evening event for Elizabeth Barrett families, complete with refreshments, a live DJ, games, a silent auction, raffle and all sorts of prizes up for grabs.

All donors and sponsors are acknowledged at the event, in the school newsletter and in both community newspapers.
