Environment Canada is warning Cochranites of extremely cold wind chills.
An extreme cold warning was issued around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, urging people to cover up as wind chills between -40 C and -45 C are occurring.
The federal agency is reporting a temperature of -23 C in the Cochrane area but with wind chill, it feels more like -35 C.
The warning is in effect for communities in Mountain View and Rocy View counties.
"Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes," Environment Canada said.
"Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill."
Temperatures are forecast to rise above 0 C by Friday. Sunday is calling for a high of 9 C.
