On Tuesday 6 August 2024, Environment Canada issued a weather summary on yesterday’s extreme weather.
According to the report, yesterday, August 5, 2024, an area of severe thunderstorms developed over Southern Alberta, and then moved to the east. These Thunderstorms produced significant and damaging hail, strong winds and heavy rain.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has received many reports of hail damage coming out of Calgary, along with localized flooding.
According to the report, the recorded hail sizes were as follows:

TENNIS BALL SIZE NEAR MOSSLEIGH
HEN EGG SIZE IN CALGARY
HEN EGG SIZE NEAR COCHRANE
GOLF BALL SIZE IN LYALTA
GOLF BALL SIZE IN STRATHMORE
PING PONG BALL SIZE IN LAKE LOUISE
TOONIE SIZE IN DELACOUR
NICKEL SIZE IN OKOTOKS
The associated wind storms recorded in Km/h were:
100 NEAR TILLEY
93 IN MOSSLEIGH
91 IN RAINIER
89 IN DIAMOND VALLEY
81 IN CHAMPION
