After a freak snowstorm put a chill on last year’s attendance, the Cochrane Fall Fair will return Aug. 21-23 at the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society grounds with a bevy of activities for those still young at heart.

Some of the events highlighted by Isabel Gimber, director and volunteer with the Ag Society, include live entertainment, competitions, a tradeshow, facepainting, petting zoo, mechanical bull and of course, the midway.

“Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Excel Homes, the Excel Homes Special Event Zone will present the amazing juggling and balancing feats of ‘The Great Balanzo’, the gymnastic talents of the Cochrane Gymnastics Performance Team…and present Victoria of Barre and Beats Fitness, as she invites the crowd to come out and try the latest new fitness trends,” said Gimber in an email of some what people can expect from the Fall Fair.

The number of activities and attractions at the Fall Fair are abound and include: a beer garden, a live DJ and karaoke stage, search and rescue dog demonstrations, horse events, a children’s fun and special event zone, Extreme Cowboy Alberta’s ‘Night at the Circus’ event Friday evening, followed by Western Regional Championship races Saturday evening, and pet competitions, like ‘best costume’, ‘cutest pet’ and ‘pets go talent.’

New to this year’s Fall Fair will be the 47th annual Old Tyme Bench Exhibition.

The Fall Fair has teamed with the Cochrane and District Old Tyme Country Fair, which was normally held around the same time as the Fall Fair at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

“Be sure to enter some of their competitions and take in all of their events at their huge event tent,” Gimber said of the Old Tyme Bench Exhibition.

Gimber added that they are always looking for people who would like to volunteer for the Fall Fair, and asked those who would like to help to call 403-932-3250 or visit cochranefair.com for more information.

Gimber also wanted to highlight the many who have already volunteered their time to help make the Fall Fair possible this year and bring ‘a little country flavour into our town’, as well as the several sponsors, which have donated generously.

Tickets to the fair are $5, those 10 years and under are free, and are only available at the gate.

Visit cochranefair.com for more information on all the events being held and for specific times of those events.

Gates open Friday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m.
