The Town of Cochrane is reminding residents that this Saturday, Oct. 5 will be the last Community Fruit Round-Up of the season.
The initiative aims to minimize food waste, while also feeding the community.
Fallen fruit will be dedicated to feed orphaned and injured animals at the Cochrane Ecological Institute. Picked fruits that haven't touched the ground will be donated for human consumption to local food security groups and food banks including the Cochrane Food Bank, the Îyâhrhe Nakoda Food Bank, as well as the Helping Hands food sheds.
The Round-Up willl take place between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at 141 Bow Bend Way.
"Help keep your yard tidy, support local wildlife, and donate fresh fruit to those in need," a statement on the Town of Cochrane Facbook Page reads. "Let’s make this last event a huge success!"
