Flaring done, traffic flowing again after Hwy. 1A propane truck incident

Rocky View County says controlled flaring operations conducted in response to the propane truck rollover on Hwy. 1A were complete, and road was open again.

According to Rocky View County, controlled flaring to burn off leaking propane on a truck that overturned on Highway 1A, between Woodland Road and Lochend Road, has been completed.

In an early morning post on its Facebook page, Rocky View County confirmed controlled flaring operations conducted in response to the propane leak incident were successfully completed as of 7:00 a.m on March 1.

The County also confirmed that all safety checks have been completed, and nearby residents who had been temporarily evacuated were cleared to return home as of 9:30 p.m. Friday night. The highway, which had been closed while cleanup operations were underway, was reopened on Saturday morning.

"Highway 1A has fully opened in both directions, and emergency crews have been released from the scene," the Facebook post states. "The Bearspaw Lions Club reception centre has closed.There are no further safety concerns for the area."

The County thanked all who had responded to the incident, which began before noon on Friday, Feb. 28.

"We sincerely thank the public for their patience and cooperation throughout this response. The successful resolution of this incident was due to the collaborative efforts with our response partners the Calgary Fire Department, RCMP, Emergency Response Assistance Canada, Bearspaw Lions Club, and all supporting agencies."
