Flowers a timeless gift to celebrate Mother's Day

“I think people need that sunshine in their life and flowers they bring that joy. They carry that beautiful fragrance but they also bring that sunshine and joy that I think everybody needs in their life right now,” Brilliant Blooms owner and florist Brittni Wilson said

COCHRANE—  With Mother’s Day right around the corner, flowers are a great and safe way to show mom she is cherished.

Brilliant Blooms owner and florist Brittni Wilson said moms especially deserve a treat right now as many are struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic and a heartfelt bouquet can help bring a smile to mom's face.

“Mom’s deserve the best in the world. They work their butts off for their families,” Wilson said. “They deserve to be treated like gold and they deserve to have something beautiful."

Wilson said 2020 has been her busiest year yet for Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 10).

The florist said she was already almost at 200 orders as of Friday (May 1). Typically she would see around 50 to 100 orders for Mother’s Day, she said, explaining that her business has doubled during the COIVD-19 pandemic.

“I think people need that sunshine in their life and flowers they bring that joy. They carry that beautiful fragrance but they also bring that sunshine and joy that I think everybody needs in their life right now,” Wilson said.

Some of Wilson’s favourite flowers for mom include roses, lilies, peonies, carnations and ranunculus. Bouquets are always a popular gift for moms she said because they boast prolific flowers that have a beautiful and strong fragrance.

Bouquets are also a safe gift because flowers can be delivered while maintaining social distancing and minimizing exposure to the virus, she added.

Wilson recommends placing orders with florists as soon as possible for Mother's Days to ensure bouquets are available.

Alana Hicks manager of Incredible Florist said Mother’s Day is the busiest holiday of the year at the shop, and this year is no different.

Hicks said the store will be able to accommodate orders on Mother’s Day, but added that she recommends ordering in advance to ensure you can get your mom the perfect bouquet.

Hicks said mothers deserve to be honoured this year more than ever because the COVID-19 pandemic is limiting ways to celebrate.

“It’s strange times, it’s certainly a unique Mother’s Day,” Hicks said. “Typically they would get to go out for brunch or do something with their children, but now they’re stuck at home— I think the least you can do right now is send flowers.”

The holiday keeps the shop busy, she said, explaining that they will be completing orders over the entire weekend.

For those looking to get mom the perfect bouquets, Hicks had some tips.

“The perfect bouquets come from the heart,” Hicks said. “If you know her favourite colour or her favourite flower and you can incorporate that then I think that is the best way to go.”

Incredible Florist has seen an increase in online deliveries, she said, adding that she recommends ordering a bouquet for your mom as soon as possible. Hicks noted that the shop can offer no contact delivery or pick up at their shop.

“We’re working really hard this year to try and make sure we have enough arrangement for everyone,” Hicks said. “If you can’t be there with your mother this year sending flowers is the way to go.”
