If you have an art lover on your Christmas shopping list, this may be an opportunity to get an early start.
The Foothills Art Club’s annual Fall Art Show and Sale will be taking place at the Cochrane Alliance Church Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Lily Ching is in her second term as president of the club and she specializes in portrait, landscape and pastels.
“It’s lots of fun,” said Ching of the event. “We have lots of different types of art at the show, from abstract to expression to realistic.”
Ching said that the artwork would be on sale for a very reasonable price, with larger pieces ranging from $200 - $1,000 and smaller paintings for less than $100.
“There is something for everybody,” she said.
Ching pointed out that the club has grown quite a bit since she first joined in 2009 when there were around 20 members. Now the club has over 50 members and continues to grow. She said originally they would have the fall show at the Cochrane Curling Club, but it became so big they had to move to the Alliance Church. At this show they will have 35 to 40 of the artists in the club participating, making even the church a tight squeeze, according to Ching. Despite the tight fit, she said they are always accepting new members into their club.
“Anyone who loves art can join. It is open to beginners, intermediate and professional,” said Ching. The group meets ever Wednesday at St. Andrews United Church in Cochrane.
There is no admission cost for the Oct. 18 event and there will also be a draw for an original painting. For more information call 403-932-7361 or visit foothillsartclub.com.
