Footstock is taking hold of Cochrane once again, with new routes and a change of starting location.

Due to pathway construction, the five and 10 kilometre routes have been redirected to run north into the Cochrane Historic Ranche site.

The 5 km route will head towards the Cochrane RancheHouse and then head back through the Glenbow community along the creek. The 10 km route will follow the same direction through the area.

Also new this year, all routes will start and finish at the Lions Rodeo Grounds near the Big Hill Leisure Pool.

“We love to run our races on the red shale path. (The change of routes) does mean a little more out and back rather than some long stretch of route to cover,” Meredith McMorran said. McMorran is one of the two chairpersons of the event.

McMorran said she’s noticed lower registration numbers for races around Cochrane, including Footstock.

“I think it’s challenging for racers and volunteers to come out when all the events are on one day,” she said, but posits that it hasn’t put a damper on the enthusiasm of the volunteers.

While official registration ended midnight yesterday (June 10), McMorran said they are willing to be flexible to potential runners.

She said latecomers could visit race registration Saturday afternoon and they’ll do their best in accommodating them.

The Sunday start times for each category:

The 10 kilometre run-walk starts 7:30 a.m.

The five kilometre run-walk begins 12:30 p.m.

The individual and relay duathlon both begin 7 a.m.

The Kids Triathlon begins 8:30 a.m.
