Additional charges have been laid on a former Springbank Community High School teacher who was being investigated for child luring, sexual exploitation and making explicit material available to a young person.

Over the last several months since the arrest the RCMP have conducted an investigation with the Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit, and on July 8, Timothy Bailey, 49 was formally charged with accessing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

"It is very concerning because police as well is in possession of authority, so it's really tough when we encounter investigations such as this, but we know people who commit crimes in every type of employment," Cpl. Gina Slaney said. "But we have a job to do and we will hold everybody accountable."

At the time of initial investigation, property had been seized from the accused such as electronics, but it takes time to get judicial authorizations for those electronics to be searched, and the additional charges laid on Bailey are a result of that.

Previously, on Jan. 21, 2025, Cochrane RCMP initiated an investigation into his conduct after a female student reported inappropriate behaviour.

As a result of this investigation, Bailey, who is a resident of Calgary, was charged with child luring, sexual exploitation and making explicit material available to a young person.

He was a teacher at Springbank Community High School at the time of his arrest in January. Bailey was a Maths teacher who instructed Grade 10 to 12 students.

Bailey was employed by RVS in 2003 though he is no longer a teacher with Rocky View Schools (RVS).

"Any type of investigation would be tough on victims, but we make it priority that they are continuously updated," Slaney shared. "We've contacted lots [of victims] on our files and we give them updates as often as we have new information."

Even if the RCMP doesn't have new information, they still check in with victims to offer support and ensure they're aware of available resources, Slaney said.
