Cochranites can get up to two pails of free compost this weekend at Cochrane's compost giveaway event this Saturday, May 11.
In addition to adding nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to help your plants grow, compost can increase the water-holding capacity of soil. Compost can hold an amount of water equal to 200 per cent of its dry weight, compared to 20 per cent for a low-humus soil.
It's the perfect addition to your outdoor space - to prepare for the anticipated dry summer season. You can add it for lawn top dressing, to your garden, or to potting soil.
The event goes from 10AM-4PM at the Lagoon site, 141 Bow Bend Way.
Residents must bring and utilize their own tools (shovels, pails, bags, etc.).
