For nearby Morley, the impact of the epic June floods continues, as numerous Nation families are being shuffled into mobile home units while their homes are under repair or rebuild.
For Mandie Schuler, RMT and owner of Mountain Edge Massage, there has never been a better time to roll up her sleeves and raise funds and food for the Stoney Nakoda Nation Food Bank, as a way to alleviate some of the stress placed on the community from the floods.
This desire to help out has prompted Schuler to host a fundraiser for the food bank Nov. 30 from 1-4 p.m. at the Alliance Church, where she and her fellow massage therapists will be giving 10 minute massages for $10, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going toward the Nation food bank.
“When the floods came I wasn’t personally affected, so it’s easy to forget,” said Schuler. “But after talking to a lot of people about the need out there, with so many people being affected by the floods, I thought this would be a great way to help out.”
Schuler said there are five therapists signed up, but she hopes more massage therapists can dig in – even if they can’t stay for the entire duration of the event.
“I envision packing the Alliance Church with people and having every 10 minute slot full for the whole three hours.”
The event will also be collecting non-perishable food items. To learn more or to volunteer, contact Mandie Schuler at 587-888-9086 or [email protected].
