With the weather getting warmer, you might be dragging your camping gear out of the garage. However before you get the car packed up, here’s an update:
Provincial campsite fees have increased $3 per night this year, translating to $5 to $26 per night for campsites. An additional $1 fee has been added to powered sites to help offset increased utility cost.
Sewage disposal also increased from a flat fee of $3 to a range of $3 to $10. Alberta Parks is introducing an optional on-site, pump-out service at some campgrounds (up to $25).
According to the Alberta Parks website, increases will also be applied to group campsites on a per-unit base. The base rate of $50 for a group campsite will increase to $50 to $150 per night. However that change will not be implemented until 2016.
Alberta Parks has released a list of upgrades to a number of sites around the province. The number of comfort camping units was increased to 29 across seven parks. Kehiwin Lake Provincial Recreation Park and Medicine Lake Provincial Recreation Area have been improved and expanded to 34 and 30 campsites respectively. Powered sites are now available at Crimson Lake, Pierre Grey’s Lakes, William A. Switzer, Gregoire Lake and Cold Lake Provincial Parks.Whitney Lakes Provincial Park has also been expanded to 53 upgraded sites and 33 new powered sites.
