The Ghost Watershed Alliance Society (GWAS) is hosting their annual general meeting Nov. 29 at The Crossing at Ghost River.
The venue is located 20 km northwest of Cochrane, off Highway 40 and the event runs from 9:30 a.m.-noon.
“We are always looking for new board members and we currently have one (of ten directors) moving away,” said Marina Krainer, executive director for GWAS.
With a ‘vision to preserve and enhance the integrity of the ecosystem in the Ghost Watershed’ the society is currently focused on reviewing the status of their ‘State of the Watershed’ report project, which has been named their ‘most ambitious’ project since their 2002 inception.
The purpose of the project is to provide a detailed, scientific assessment of conditions in the Ghost region to help identify concerns that pertain to human activities in the 1,000 square-km watershed.
The boundary extends from the edge of Banff National Park eastward to the northern tip of Ghost Lake.
Keynote speaker for the event will be Adam Driedzic from the Environmental Law Centre, who will be discussing the recreation management and the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan and how the recently approved plan would impact the watershed.
The GWAS board meets monthly and has public engagement through their annual fundraising gala, AGM and ongoing educational programming.
Annual memberships are $10. The GWAS is a recognized stakeholder for the Ghost area. To learn more, visit ghostwatershed.ca.
