Tim Hagen will be leading the charge to reunite Cremona as its new mayor.

According to the unofficial results, Hagen earned 88 votes in the Oct. 21 municipal election, beating out former Cremona councillor Karel Beckman (51 votes), and Elizabeth (Betty) Bell (22 votes).

The new mayor will be joined by Margaret (Meg) Bigelow who earned 97 votes, Robert Reid who earned 105 votes, Joseph Ching Shi who earned 131 votes, and Sonia Temple who earned 93 votes.

Those losing out on a spot on council include Derald Anderson (70 votes) and Jennie Thompson (76 votes).

There were 164 ballots cast.

Those elected will form the first sitting Cremona council since the spring when two of the three members of the council resigned.

Municipal Affairs then took over the operations of the village amidst a viability study, which will decide whether Cremona is still viable as a village or whether it should be dissolved into Mountain View County.

“I don’t see it as pressure because I believe we’re viable,” he said.

Hagen said he is excited to become the new mayor but added there’s much work to be done.

First and foremost, he said, is getting council together with the various committees the village works with to talk next Wednesday. He intends to get familiar right off the bat with the village’s finances to see where efficiencies can be found. Hagen said he wants to build consensus within the village and added, “The people that didn’t make it on as council, I want to include them too.”
