Correction: a previous version of this article indicated Ron McLean and Tara Sloane would be in attendance. Rogers Hometown Hockey has informed Great West Media this will not be the case.
The excitement is rising as Cochrane prepares to host the Rogers Hometown Hockey crew this Saturday at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC).
The third game of the Calgary Flames/Dallas Stars first-round playoff series will be the centrepiece of the gathering, with a broadcast of the game on the big screen starting at 7:30 p.m.
The event at the SLSFSC starts at 5 p.m. and will run until the end of the game. Rogers is asking those planning on attending go to their website to secure a QR code to guarantee they can get in to take part in the free event.
Blair Felesky, CEO at SLSFSC, said that unlike when Hometown Hockey visited Cochrane in 2017, they were not given much notice this time around, and as of Monday morning, were still scrambling to iron out details.
This will be a condensed version of the usual Hometown Hockey events. It may not be as elaborate as the previous two-day visit in 2017.
“It all happened very, very quickly," Felesky said. "The playoff schedule only got released in the last little bit. But we’re looking forward to hosting it – we think it’s wonderful for Cochrane.
“This is their effort to hit smaller communities with smaller types of events."
Hometown Hockey will also visit Chestermere May 9 and Okotoks May 11.
The SLSFSC is located at 800 Griffin Road East.
