Hot vehicles drive in for annual show

The 8th annual Spring Hill Charity Show and Shine will once again feature scores of beautiful vehicles on Aug. 16 at the Spring Hill RV Park.

Sean Veraart, of the Spring Hill RV Park, said they are expecting around 200 cars to register and each year sees a wide variety of vehicles on display.

“Anything from a Model T to a brand new Camaro,” he said. “There is a bit of everything.”

There is a $10 registration fee with all proceeds being donated to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Participants can register from 10 a.m. to noon, with the show and shine happening from noon until 4 p.m. at the facility north of Cochrane at the intersection of Highways 567 and 22.

There will also be a charity barbecue during the day with all of those proceeds also going to the same foundation. The band WD and the 40s will be playing music throughout the day.

There will also be a 50-50 draw, door prizes, $1,000 cash prize draw for the participants who enter their vehicles, and trophies for car owners ranging from best in show to viewer’s choice.

Veraart said they chose Alberta Children’s Hospital because it is such a great facility. He has taken his daughter to the hospital, and although the visits weren’t for anything too serious, Veraart said it is something his family is thankful for.

“It’s a wonderful facility and a great facility to have nearby,” he said. “You never want to have to use it, but you know if you need, it’s there.”

He said when the RV park first opened they were trying to think of a way to raise money for the charity and would always notice a “Thursday Cruise” that would happen at the Cochrane A&W.

“We would see the cars go by there and we thought that would be kind of neat to try to do a big car show to raise the funds,” he said.

Last year the event raised $5,000 and Veraart said he hopes to match that this year.
