The Cochrane Eagle is asking candidates an issue-based question each week leading up to the election that they will answer in their own words. If a candidate does not answer a question, we will include a bio box with a disclaimer saying the candidate did not respond. All candidates were given a limit of 185 words and questions will be edited to fit that length. Our third question is:
How do you plan to address the town’s growing traffic congestion?
All municipalities are dealing with these same challenges as it has been the entire Calgary region that has had tremendous growth pressures placed on us. I have worked hard negotiating on the town’s behalf to address these concerns. The three main projects we have been working to address are as follows:
1. With the province we have their commitment to start the 1A and 22 interchange next year.
2. With the four landowners to get our new bridge and road right-of-ways in place to start construction of the James Walker Trail extension next year.
3. We have approval from the province on our revised Green Trip funding to give consideration to starting transit next year.
With these projects completed we will see substantial improvement in our traffic flows. We will also construct the CP Rail crossing at Horse Creek Road for pedestrians to connect to our path system. Shopping options in South Bow, like Co-op, will also lessen traffic on Highway 22 as folks will have shopping options closer to home.
