Finding the perfect gift for a loved one can be a bit of a challenge when you're a kid, but Cochrane Home Treasures is here to help the little ones with their Christmas lists.
Home Treasures will be hosting their ninth annual Kids Christmas Shopping Event Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. For $5, volunteers help children select up to six Christmas gifts for any friends or family, even the family pet.
All of the donations will be directed back into the community.
“They are so cute and it is so much fun. It is our favourite time of the year for all the staff and volunteers for sure, ” said Carol Caouette, store manager. “It's an amazing time. ”
Caouette said the event is for children up to 12 years old and they ask that they try to bring a list with them.
Volunteers wrap and tag the gifts for kids participating and there will also be hot chocolate and treats for everyone.
This year, Caouette said Santa from the Santa Clause Parade would be making a special appearance during the event.
“We usually get around 300 kids and I wouldn't be surprised if we double that now that Santa Claus is coming, ” she said.
Caouette said they are running another program this year called Christmas Wish, where they would be helping families in need this holiday season in Cochrane.
From Nov. 29 until Dec. 13 they will have a box at the front of the store where people can write their name and the person's name who they know is struggling this Christmas.
“This is for people that fall through the cracks. People that wouldn't go to FCSS and wouldn't go to any of the other facilities or venues available to them, because they are too proud or they think there is always somebody worse than I am, ” Caouette said.
She said that Dec. 13 they would go through the forms and try and help as many families as they could to make sure they are provided for this Christmas season.
