Liberal candidate calls for apology

Liberal Party of Canada candidate for Banff-Airdrie (currently Wild Rose) Marlo Raynolds contacted the Eagle demanding an apology from Wild Rose MP Blake Richards following a Sun News Network story that has since been retracted by the media company.

The story by Sun News commentator Brian Lilley was reported to be a recording of Raynolds voicing his displeasure with the Conservative Party’s recent Family Tax Credit, saying parents would spend the extra cash on TVs and other devices rather than on their children.

Both Richards and Employment Minister Jason Kenney jumped on the remarks to attack Raynolds.

Sun News has since retracted its story, as reports indicated that is was not Raynolds who made the comments at the Canmore meeting, but rather Tam McTavish, who was also present and confirmed that he was the voice on the recording.

As of press time, Richards has not commented on the matter, and there continues to be a push for the Tories to apologize for their comments.

“I trust Blake (Richards) will apologize for his remarks and correct the record in the House of Commons and to all the recipients of his fundraising letter,” Raynolds said in a letter to the Cochrane Eagle.
