Library's Red Carpet Movie Night gets royal treatment

Eighties cult classic, The Princess Bride, is the flick du jour for the annual Red Carpet Movie Night . . . a fundraiser for the Nan Boothby Library Oct. 26.

“This is our second annual event,” said library board chair, Carol Byler. “It’s a fundraiser and the funds we raise go to supplement our operating costs.”

The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Cochrane Movie House. For $35, those attending will take in the viewing, as well as mingle over live entertainment, appetizers, door prizes and a cash bar. The film will be shown at 9 p.m.

And it’s not a red carpet theme for nothing.

“We’re asking people to come dressed up as either characters in the movie or in red carpet attire,” said Byler, adding that the event was assisted by a community granted from the Town of Cochrane for $1,600 — which will enable the library to fork out less for production and put more toward daily library operating costs.

“We have lots of volunteers on board — some Vision Theatre actors are going to come out dressed up, as well,” she said.

Last year, nearly $2,000 was raised; this year, as ticket prices are substantially reduced, Byler hopes the fundraiser will raise at least that much.

“Even if we don’t make all the money we intend to make, this is a great community event to come out to.”

Tickets to the event are available at the Nan Boothby Memorial Library; phone 403-932-4353 for more information.
