The Cochrane Light Up committee wants to run its own version of the Cochrane Santa Claus Parade in 2016 in response to the parade committee’s decision to make the event bi-annual.

On Dec. 28, Cochrane Light Up announced its intention to run the event, called the Holiday Parade of Lights, on Dec. 10, 2016.

“We are by no means taking over the historic event but would like to add our own twist to the event as well as keep the event running,” states a press release written by Marni Fedeyko and Stephenie Shelstad, co-chairs for the Cochrane Light Up committee.

This decision came shortly after Spencer Seabrook, chairman for the Santa Claus Parade committee, announced they’d be taking a break from the event in 2016 to resume in 2017.

“We are a small committee and unfortunately the amount of obstacles and resistance that we have faced this year in the planning of the parade has taken all the fun out of it. We would like to take the next year off to take stock and regain our enthusiasm,” states a press release from the Santa Claus Parade committee.

The Cochrane Light Up committee intends to “bring (the parade) back to Historic Downtown” in the new year after the Santa Claus Parade committee was forced to alter its route this year due to safety and space issues.
