The RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating after an autopsy deemed a female victim, found deceased southeast of Cochrane, died as a result of homicide.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26, according to the RCMP press release, Cochrane RCMP received a call of a deceased female on Highway 8, southeast of Cochrane. Major Crimes then took over carriage of the investigation.
Following an autopsy completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary Feb. 27, and police believe they know the victim’s identity.
"The 24-year-old female from Calgary has been tentatively identified; however, her name will not be released at this time," the release stated.
