Man located, police car still missing

Police have located and arrested a 25-year-old Morley resident, Lorenzo Anthony Bearspaw, in connection with outstanding warrants relating to impaired driving, theft of a police cruiser and escape from lawful custody.

With the assistance and tips from the public, Bearspaw was located in Calgary and arrested without incident.

The Cochrane RCMP are now in the process of recovering the stolen police cruiser, missing since the evening of Aug. 16.

Cochrane RCMP members were investigating an impaired driving incident involving Bearspaw on Horseshoe Drive, north of the Stoney Nakoda Casino along Highway 1.

During the investigation, Bearspaw was restrained and placed in the rear of a police cruiser. A subsequent altercation broke out among several other individuals on scene that officers had to attend to.

The officers then observed the cruiser departing the area.

Air and ground searched of Stoney Nation for the police car were conducted. The car was last seen travelling north on Highway 1X.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.
