Cochrane RCMP continues to investigate after a masked intruder was noticed inside the Chief Chiniki Gas Bar on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation.
Alarms alerted police to the break and enter at about 1:30 a.m., April 21. According to Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, a lone male used a crowbar to pry open the door of the building.
Before Mounties arrived on scene, Stoney security personnel took notice of the masked man inside the store, said Savinkoff. The culprit made off with merchandise.
“Police are continuing to investigate this break and enter,” he said.
Savinkoff described the male suspect as heavyset. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a high-visibility, reflective jacket. He left the scene driving a mid-2000s, light-coloured, Ford F-150 bearing Alberta marker ZUG 433.
Mounties are also searching for clues after three separate fires were sparked in Morley in the early morning hours of April 22.
Savinkoff said police received calls about the three small fires just before 4 a.m.
The blazes were located a short distance from each other — two were started at the garbage dump, and the other at a shed behind the Stoney Trading Post.
“We do have a suspect in mind, but we’re still actively investigating this matter,” said Savinkoff.
Cochrane RCMP was joined at the scenes by the Stoney fire department.
