Patrick Striker Holloway, 24, was sentenced to eight years in prison for the murder of 35-year old Gino Bearspaw – found dead in a Morley residence Jan. 1, 2011.
Prosecutors sought a 14-year-term, but due to Holloway’s age and attempt to plead guilty to manslaughter early after his arrest, Justice Suzanne Bensler of the Calgary Court of the Queen’s Bench decided on a lesser sentence.
An autopsy on the victim was completed Jan. 5, 2011, and it was determined the cause of death was a result of injuries sustained by stabbing.
Along with Holloway, two additional suspects were arrested following the New Year’s Day murder; Ameria Kadre Holloway, 37, and Andrew Leigh Pooreagle, 24, all at that time charged for murder.
Patrick Holloway stood trial for second-degree murder, and was convicted by a jury for manslaughter. His sentence will be reduced by 27 months for time served.
