Morley Community School (MCS) students are pedaling hard this spring season, as they continue their adventures with ‘Two Wheel View’, a grassroots cycling group that facilitates leadership and health and wellness opportunities for youth through the power of cycling.
Teacher Emily Parkin is pedaling alongside the group of youth, which so far this season has included travelling with her group of nine students to Montreal, Que. to take part in the YMCA Youth Exchange Bike Trip May 9-17.
Tomorrow (May 29) 10-12 Grade 8 and 9 students will be dropped off in Lake Louise with teachers and Two Wheel View leaders to cycle and camp their way back to Morley, arriving at the school on the afternoon of June 2.
“Our kids respond very well to the Two Wheel View programs because they take the time to build strong relationships with the kids and teaching staff,” said Parkin.
“They empower the kids by teaching them useful skills, giving them real hands-on practice and by giving them plenty of space to experiment, provide input and make decisions.”
Parkin said she would love to continue to work with the grassroots organization and to get more students on board.
From June 6-13, the MCS group will be accompanying their visiting Quebec friends, cycling and camping their way from Calgary to Banff.
