One of the most talked about films of the year is the pick for the monthly Chinook Film Group, which will be screened at 7 p.m., Oct. 22 at the Cochrane Movie House.
Boyhood was filmed over a lengthy 12-year-span and used the same cast throughout, which included Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette.
“We had received requests from people in the group for us to show this film,” said Murray Mitchell, the programmer of the film group. “There has been a lot of buzz about it.”
So far the film has received a rating of 99 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and 100 per cent on Metacritic (both film review sites).
The director is Richard Linklater, who also wrote and directed Dazed and Confused (1993) as well as what has come to be known as the “Before Trilogy” including Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2013).
According to the film’s website, it follows the story of a boy growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason, who literally grows up on screen before the audience’s eyes. They described it as a “nostalgic time capsule” and an “ode to growing up and parenting.” Mitchell said that the cultural references during the film, including technology and music, keep you aware of the changing times.
Tickets for the film are available at Java Jamboree, as well as recently becoming available at Tea… and Other Things.
Mitchell said they added this location after Video Experts closed down, adding how thankful he was for the store’s support over the years.
