The Cochrane Music Society (CMS) will be bringing the sounds of the season to Cochrane with its annual Christmas concert Dec. 16.
The performance will feature the ensembles Band on the Bow, Choral Waves and Riverside Jazz, with a wide variety of styles of music and Christmas classics.
“It is a way to hear some live classical music,” said Jane Kaczmer, CMS treasurer. “It is a really good time.”
Kaczmer said that from time to time various sections of the concert band have come together to form their own separate little ensemble and perform in the foyer while people are coming in. This year, it will be the clarinet section.
The event is free but Kaczmer said they are encouraging people to bring donations for the food bank, and said audiences have been very generous each year.
Also in the foyer before and after the concert, Glenbow Elementary School will be selling greeting cards to benefit the Morley Food Bank. The cards adorn feature paintings that were created by Glenbow First Nations and Métis students between Grades 1-4.
Kaczmer said that she encourages people who are interested in playing or singing to think about joining one of the ensembles at CMS. She pointed out that CMS has had an exciting year with some really good workshops and visits from guest directors, including the Oasis Quartet.
“There is a variety of levels of experience in all of the ensembles so everyone learns and grows together,” Kaczmer said.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Cochrane Alliance Church. For more information visit cochranemusic.ca.
