If you’re looking for some outdoor adventure and to learn a bit more about the area’s environment, the provincial park sitting at Cochrane’s doorstep may have the program for you.
Offering a slew of events in the coming weeks, Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park has something for just about everyone.
This weekend (Aug. 15), check out what to do if your child got lost in the woods. The free event – Hug a Tree (or Rock, Fencepost, Shrub) and Survive – teaches families what to do if their child has lost their way outside, including live play and activities for children on how they can help get themselves get rescued whether in the woods, the coulees, the prairies or anywhere else. Cochrane Search and Rescue will be part of the workshop.
The final Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) talk of the season will take place Aug. 19.
Next week’s discussion will be about the importance of water and how much fresh water there really is on our planet, including the area’s connection to the Bow River.
The Ride for the Ranch event is set for Aug. 22, a full-day trail ride that supports the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation.
Along the ride, those taking part will see tipi rings, historic ruins and learn about the vast history of Glenbow Park lands. A lunch will be provided, as will a dinner following the ride at Bearspaw Lions Hall, coupled with an evening of cowboy poetry.
The ride portion of the event is sold out, but tickets to the dinner and poetry reading are still available.
