Cochrane pet owners are being asked to show their hearts — all in support of the furry residents of the Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS).
For the second year running, Global Pet Foods Cochrane is holding their Show Us Your Heart campaign. One hundred per cent of the proceeds from the fundraiser, which is set to run Feb. 1 – 15, will benefit the CAHS.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $2,000 for the shelter. Fiona Sharman, owner of the Cochrane store, said she has set a fundraising goal of $4,000.
“This helps support the animals until they find their forever home,” said Sharman. “I know the shelter has big visions for the future — this financial help can help to achieve these goals.”
Cheryl Wallach, spokesperson for the local humane society, said proceeds will go towards the care of the homeless animals. She said it costs the shelter about $40 a day to tend to a dog and about $20 a day to care for any of the other animals.
The initiative has been running nationwide since 2006. In that time, more than $570,000 has been raised for local animal shelters or rescues.
“These shelters do all the work, often on their own dime and through the blood, sweat and tears of volunteers,” said Jim Walker, president of Global Pet Foods. “This is our way of giving back to them.”
To show your heart to homeless pets, donations can be made in-store or online. Global Pet Foods and Hill’s Ideal Balance will match the first dollar of every in-store donation.
