Cochrane council addressed two land use bylaws during their Jan. 28 meeting.
The first redesignated 29 existing residential lots on Heartland Way from high-density, multi-unit dwellings to single, detached.
The approval of this bylaw corrected a previous error within the Heartland neighbourhood.
The motion was carried by a 4-1 vote, with Mayor Truper McBride voting against.
Councillors Ivan Brooker and Ivan Davies were both absent from the meeting.
The second land use bylaw, which was given first reading, would aim to redesignate 1.78 hectares of land at the south end of Fireside from residential single detached to residential single and two dwelling.
With the developer estimating that 80 per cent of the lots would be single detached and the remainder semi-detached dwellings, the amendment would allow for the number of units to rise from the current 46 to anywhere between 51 and 69.
A public hearing was also established for Feb. 11 to address the proposed amendment to the Fireside bylaw.
