Community shutterbugs will have an opportunity to tell Cochrane’s story in pictures this summer.
The Cochrane Camera Club, Town of Cochrane Economic Development and Cochrane Tourism Association are calling on all Cochranites — and businesses — to participate in “A Day in the Life” photography project.
This summer, on June 2 — as many as 50 photographers from the camera club will take to the streets, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses to capture a day in the town of Cochrane.
“We’re going to invade the town that day,” said Patrick Price, a professional photographer, who spearheaded the initiative.
Anything from organized events — such as Footstock, taking place that day — to backyard family barbecues, people gardening, birthday parties and other everyday events are welcomed to be featured.
“I hope everyone participates. Artists, athletes, non-profit groups, businesses, merchants... Everyone who lives works and plays in this town,” Price said.
“This is to showcase the people that live here,” Price said. “We want everything. We want to capture life in Cochrane for a day, that’s the essence.”
All the photos taken will be processed, condensed into a manageable volume and uploaded to www.makeithere.ca, a site which features local businesses in an effort to attract tourists and potential newcomers from Canada or internationally.
“We feel like it’s a great opportunity to showcase a day in the life and really show people from inside Cochrane — and outside — how dynamic it is and how much we can provide as a living place, as a working place,” said Mike Korman, Cochrane’s economic development manager. “You can make it here, you can work here, you can live here, create here. That’s all we’re trying to showcase.”
Pat Johnston, president of the Cochrane Camera Club, said not only does it provide a visual record of the town for one day, it also is a platform for local photographers to show off their creativity.
“It’s a great concept of running around taking a look at — and using — the creativity of photographers to capture what it really means to be in Cochrane for a day. It’s a win for businesses and for people that want to be photographed. I think it’s a huge community builder. It will be a fun project,” Johnston said.
While the project will stay in the scope of town limits, if community members indicate an interest in photographing nearby ranches, exceptions may be made.
Those interested in being featured in the photo project are asked to send an email to [email protected] so the club can add them into the schedule.
