The first annual ‘Spring Poopapalooza’ is set for April 26 at the Cochrane off-leash dog park next to Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Those who use the park to walk their four-legged friends are encouraged to come by, enjoy a complimentary coffee provided by Cochrane McDonald’s and take part in poop scooping.
“We like to get together a couple times a year and have people and dogs get together to get to know one another,” said organizer Jim Uffelmann.
Beginning last fall, volunteers who take pride in maintaining the park are set on hosting the event each fall and spring to assist in keeping the unsightly piles to a minimum.
“We do our part to make sure everyone enjoys themselves while ensuring the off leash area is safe and clean. Sadly, some people seem unable to do the courteous, responsible thing and pick up after their own dog.”
Uffelmann, an avid supporter of the park who walks there daily with Lulu, his Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, wishes to remind people of the importance in cleaning up after their own pets.
Cochrane animal services regularly patrols the off-leash park, serving up fines that start at $200 to owners who fail to pick up after their pooches.
