Power still out for some Cochranites

As of 1:30 pm Monday, Fortis Alberta was showing 1927 active power outages in Cochrane.

As of 3:20 pm Monday, Fortis Alberta was showing 308 active power outages in Cochrane on their online Outage Map. The estimated time of restoration is now 4:30 pm. The bulk of the outages are in the Gleneagles area.

Currently, the traffic lights are out at the intersection of Hwy. 22 and Gleneagles Drive/ Range Rd. 40. When traffic lights are out, and there's no traffic control, they should be treated as a four-way stop by motorists.

At approximately 3:30 on Saturday, a second grid alert in less than 24 hours was announced by The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), in response to ongoing extreme cold temperatures across western Canada, restricted imports and very high demand.

A third grid alert issued by (AESO) on Sunday afternoon and was later rescinded.

This was the third grid alert issued in as many days. On Saturday evening, the grid alert issued by AESO triggered Alberta's Emergency Alert system.

In the event of a rotating outage, the AESO directs Distribution Facility Owners (DFOs), such as municipalities, to reduce power on a pro-rata basis across the province.  Outages will occur simultaneously across Alberta. Critical facilities such as hospitals, fire, police and first responders are not included in rotating outages. Each DFO manages rotating outages at their level. Each rotating outage is expected to last approximately 30 minutes at a time.
