Rainfall warning issued Monday for Cochrane, parts of Rocky View County

50 mm to 70 mm of rain expected before tapering off on Tuesday; snow expected in higher elevations

COCHRANE– Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a rainfall warning for parts of central and southern Alberta Monday with snowfall possible in the foothills.

Heavy rain is expected Monday with total amounts of 50 millimetres (mm) to 70 mm in the affected areas.

Areas included in the warning are:

• Mountain View County near Carstairs, Cremona, Water Valley, Olds, Didsbury and Sundre;

• Red Deer County near Penhold, Innisfail, Bowden, Spruce View, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Sylvan Lake;

• Rocky View County near Airdrie, Crossfield, Bottrel, Madden and Cochrane;

• Red Deer, Clearwater County, Municipal District of Bighorn along with other areas;

“Wet snow is expected for higher elevations in the foothills, with up to 10 (centimetres) of accumulation possible. Rain will taper off on Tuesday morning,” the federal agency’s 5 a.m. May 12 weather update said.
